Stephen Hager

Stephen Hager received his B.A. in English from Emory University (summa cum laude). Prior to entering UVA as a PhD candidate, he worked in sales and business development at Groupon and LinkedIn. His dissertation explores the connection between late literary modernism and early sound cinema in works by Virginia Woolf, Henry Green, William Wyler, and Gregg Toland. In his time at UVA Stephen has taught courses on writing composition, film adaptation, and comedy, and has served as a TA for History of English Literatures I, History of English Literatures II (Head TA), and Global Cultural Studies (Head TA). Stephen was a recipient of the 2019 Harvard Institute of World Literature fellowship.
